Performance Max vs Standard Shopping: Which Should You Run?

Demo content: review and edit before promoting this page.

Ecommerce advertisers often ask whether to move everything into Performance Max or keep Standard Shopping. The honest answer depends on your data, catalog and goals, and it is one of the first questions I answer in Google Shopping ads management.

When Performance Max works well

  • Steady conversion volume, roughly 30 or more purchases a month
  • A clean, optimized product feed
  • You want reach across Search, Shopping, YouTube and Display

When Standard Shopping fits better

  • You need search term control
  • You are testing new products or working with a small budget
  • You want clear reporting by product and query

Running both

Many stores use Performance Max for proven best sellers and Standard Shopping for testing. Keep product sets separate so they do not compete. For structure ideas, see structuring Shopping campaigns by margin and how to build PMax asset groups.
